R W Forsyth Glasgow - Edinburgh - London

Made by the renowned kilt makers R W Forsyth, known for their exceptional craftsmanship and traditional Scottish Highland dress expertise.

R. W. Forsyth, commonly known as Forsyth's, emerged as a prominent chain of department stores originating in Glasgow in the year 1872. With notable success, the enterprise extended its operations to Edinburgh by 1906, followed by a strategic expansion into London.

In 1925 Forsyth’s purchased a site on Regent Street in London. 'Vigo House'. Designed by Messrs Sir John Burnet, Tait and Lorne, this building was said to rank among the finest examples of British shop architecture at the time.

The large new shop opened in the late 1920’s at the crossroads where Vigo Street and Glasshouse Street join Regent Street. They continued at the London address until after WW2.

A Sporran is a pouch (Scottish Gaelic for ‘purse’). Now a decorative part of Highland dress, it was originally an everyday  practical item. Made of leather or fur, it usually has more or less elaborate silver or other ornamentation, especially on the clasp or hanger. It is worn on a chain or belt around the waist, allowing the sporran to lie below the waist of the person wearing a kilt.
