Pipe Major Plaid Brooch - The Highlanders Regimentals
We were recently approached to replicate a Plaid brooch and cross belt - baldric brooch set modeled after the ones worn by the Pipe Major of the Highlanders. Our team is excited about the opportunity to recreate these iconic pieces with precision and attention to detail, ensuring that they capture the essence of Highland tradition and craftsmanship.
This exclusive design, inspired by the original Seaforth Highlanders' attire, holds a special place in history and has been worn with pride by the Pipe Major of the Queens Own Highlanders – The Highlanders. The rich heritage of this outfit reflects a deep connection to Scottish military traditions and the essence of Highland dress.
The plaid brooch, beautifully adorned with a stags head, proudly displays a battle honour design, symbolizing the valour and tradition of the Highlanders. Positioned at the top, the intricate Highlanders thistle adds an exquisite touch of Scottish heritage. In contrast, the Pipe Major’s cross belt, known as a baldric brooch, also showcases the Highlanders thistle prominently at the top, yet, it differs by not including any battle honours, maintaining its own unique charm and significance.
Below the royal emblem of the thistle resting proudly, a finely crafted scroll elegantly displays the revered regimental motto Cuidich ‘n Righ. This distinguished brooch, designed with meticulous attention to detail, is uniquely finished with two secure bolts for effortless attachment to the cross belt, a departure from the conventional back pin design.
The Highlanders, currently designated as the 4th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 SCOTS), have a rich history as an esteemed infantry battalion within the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Before March 28, 2006, The Highlanders stood as a distinguished infantry regiment with a strong lineage, comprising the Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs), The Duke of Albany's Gordon Highlanders, and the 79th Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, all forming part of the illustrious Scottish Division.
The prestigious regiment, distinguished by its Gaelic motto “Cuidich 'n Righ” translating to “Help the King,” stands as one of the two in the British Army to possess such a motto. The other regiment, the Royal Irish Regiment, boasts the Gaelic motto “Faugh a Ballagh” (Anglicised as "Clear the Way!"). Embodying the rich history of the regiment, pipers and drummers proudly don kilts fashioned from the Cameron of Erracht tartan, symbolizing the regiment's evolution over time.
