James Clark 1866 - 1941 Balmoral Highlander
James Clark was born 12th March 1866 on Royal Deeside and he died on 11th December 1941 For many years he had proudly served as a Balmoral Highlander for the King.
The Clarks had been skilled Blacksmiths at Ardmeanach, located in the region of Birkhall. Their expertise in the craft contributed significantly to the local community and the surrounding area.
The Clark family were from Foot of Gairn, Glenmuick and are related to other local families including the Shaws’ and in turn to the Frasers.
In the year 1903, King Edward VII commissioned the renowned silversmith William Robb of Ballater to create an entirely new Highland uniform accoutrements for the Balmoral Highlanders piper and the 24 distinguished "men-at-arms".
The uniform was distinguished by its silver accoutrements, which were hallmarked in Edinburgh during the same year, showcasing their exquisite craftsmanship. Among those who donned this impressive attire, James Clark proudly joined the ranks of the Balmoral Highlanders, participating in many celebrated parades, including the prestigious Braemar Gathering, where the spirit of Scottish tradition was vibrantly on display.

Today, the descendant of James Clark continue to live in the picturesque Royal Deeside region, where they actively contribute to preserving and celebrating the rich local history of the area through their involvement with the distinguished Invercauld Highlanders.
